Doing our homework
We worked closely with the NJP to gain as much understanding as possible of lived experiences and the trauma of those being represented. The brief was complex and delicate: with a deep political history around refugees in Australia, and multiple layers of legal constraints around language and allegation. Our joint objective with NJP was to distil and articulate the most compelling, human story that we possibly could without compromising the integrity of the ongoing lawsuit. We read through anonymised transcripts, extensive expert reporting and background documents, gaining insights into the complexity and nuance necessary to justly present this big-picture story we were privileged to tell.
Universal
We took lead from the constraints of the project and flipped 'limitations' into strength. In anonymising the stories of 50 refugees and distilling them into an overarching narrative, we created a compelling and accessible frame to understand why the fight was happening, and what impact donations would have.
The result
We created a video that translated the common experiences of NJP's clients into an emotionally charged, abstract expression that engaged and empowered their community to contribute to the cause. A powerful standalone narrative, the video lives beyond the campaign period as an asset that NJP continue to repurpose and benefit from, not only in motion but through still frames and illustrated design assets.
The campaign raised over $107,000 – and the High Court decided in National Justice Project's favour, meaning they could fast-track their cases to the Federal Court, bolstered by fully-funded medical and psychological reports for each client.
#MovesForGood
This was the first project created as part of GoodMoves' #MovesForGood vertical – bringing different creators together to work with the Breeder team to aid the work of impactful nonprofits who we respect and care about.
